Flooding is a stressful event for any homeowner or business owner and, after dealing with the initial shock and realization that a flood has occurred, it may be difficult to determine what to do immediately after in order to best prevent water damage. In this blog, we will break down our Water Damage Tips, which can help you understand what you can do to protect your home or business when disaster strikes.
What To Do After a Flood
- Remove excess water by mopping and blotting
- Remove and prop up wet upholstery and cushions
- Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting in order to prevent further water damage
- Remove art objects and relocate them to a safe, dry place
What NOT To Do After a Flood
- Don’t leave items on wet surfaces. Instead, move them to dry spaces or hang them outside to dry
- Don't use your household vacuum to remove water
- Don't use any items that require electricity, including your television or other household appliances
- Don't turn on ceiling fixtures if the ceiling is wet and if the ceiling is sagging in any rooms, move to a safer area
